Description

Seeking a highly skilled and visionary Senior Textile Designer to lead the creative, strategic, and operational development of the studio’s textile collections. This role will oversee the full lifecycle of textile design—from concept to execution—while ensuring alignment with brand identity, innovation, and market trends.

The ideal candidate brings a refined sensibility, deep knowledge of textile techniques and materials, and strong cross-functional leadership. This individual will collaborate closely with design, interiors, and product teams to deliver collections for residential, hospitality, and outdoor applications—while championing sustainability and continuous innovation.

Responsibilities

Creative Leadership

    Direct the design of new textiles that align with the studio’s aesthetic and values.
    Research trends, techniques, and materials to keep collections relevant and competitive.
    Collaborate across departments (furniture, lighting, interiors) to build cohesive narratives.

Competitive Research & Market Analysis

    Monitor the market and industry events to identify trends, materials, and construction innovations.
    Visit trade shows, design fairs, and industry events to gather inspiration and benchmark the brand against industry leaders.
    Present findings and actionable insights to the team, integrating competitive advantages into the collection.

Sourcing New Fabrics & Techniques

    Discover and introduce new materials, textures, and construction methods.
    Maintain global vendor relationships to secure access to cutting-edge textile innovations.
    Blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technologies.

Collection Development

    Lead the planning and execution of seasonal or thematic textile collections.
    Ensure each collection includes a diverse, functional range of patterns and materials.
    Review and approve all designs, samples, and prototypes for consistency and quality.

Material & Supplier Management

    Source and vet high-quality materials that meet both aesthetic and performance goals.
    Manage vendor relationships to ensure on-time delivery and ethical sourcing practices.

Quality Control

    Define and maintain textile performance standards (durability, colorfastness, etc.).
    Oversee testing protocols and address quality concerns throughout development.

Marketing & Client Support

    Collaborate with marketing on campaigns, assets, and storytelling.
    Support sales teams and showrooms with product knowledge and application guidance.

Partnerships & Communication

    Lead all communication with external partners related to strategy, design, budgets and launches.
    Ensure all partner communications are conducted in line with studio expectations and standards.

Strategic Planning & Budgeting

    Set vision and goals for the textile division, including growth, positioning, and innovation.
    Oversee design, production, and marketing budgets with a focus on cost-efficiency.

Sustainability & Innovation

    Promote sustainable practices and materials in textile development.
    Explore new technologies (e.g., AI design tools, digital printing) to enhance innovation.

Cross-Department Collaboration

    Work closely with interiors and product teams to ensure textiles are seamlessly integrated into broader design projects.
    Support e-commerce with compelling content and product storytelling.

Research & Development

    Stay updated on industry trends, innovations, and competitors to maintain a leading position in the market.
    Regularly attend trade shows and industry events for research and inspiration.

Qualifications

    Proficiency in textile design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CAD software).
    Strong understanding of materials, printing techniques, and manufacturing processes.
    Exceptional creativity with a focus on detail and craftsmanship.
    Ability to adapt designs to different scales and applications, from intimate residential spaces to expansive commercial projects.
    Oversee partnerships: Tile Design Partnership, Wallcovering.
    Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with clients, manufacturers and cross-disciplinary teams.
    Strong project management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    Knowledge of current trends and innovations in textile and interior design.
    A keen eye for color, texture, and composition to develop visually striking and functional designs.
    Familiarity with sustainable practices and eco-friendly materials in textile design is a plus.
    Familiarity with AI tools and platforms to enhance design workflows is a plus.
